3D Printer

3D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by successive layers of material. 3D printers offer product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a single build process. Advanced 3D printing technologies yield models that closely emulate the look, feel and functionality of product prototypes. From Wikipedia

It was a news for me when I first know that we can use 3D software to create a real life object.

To expend the function of 3D printer, maybe in the future, we can use printers to print out our cars, houses, boats… or anything we can imagine! All Second Life world, objects, even avatars might come to our real world!

When computer graphic with color printer first be categorized as “printmaking” in art, it was a shock. Today, with 3D printer, computer 3D graphic might be categorized as “sculpture” soon.

Technology is really changing our life. Art today can be created without touching, feeling, sweating, and the directly connection with the material. Technology gives everyone chances to express their imagination easier, however, will it reduce our connection of touching and feeling between our hand and body with different materials?
